Outdoor Exhibits

The MBHS Museum features permanent and rotating exhibits displayed on the grounds of the society. Below are our current and upcoming exhibits.

  • Landers' original post office has been painstakingly refurbished to its original glory. Take a look inside and see what it was like to visit a US Post Office from yesteryear.

  • Built in 1957 by 15-year-old Steve Hanson and his dad ‘Ole.’ Folks from LA and other urban centers purchased 5-acre tracts and put up small cabins to visit on weekends and holidays. Many people never moved here…

  • The Native Plant Garden allows visitors to learn about the many different and unique plants, flowers, and trees that grow in the High Desert.

  • In 1966 a friend gave Vernette Landers a male bobcat named Impy and a year later someone gave her a female bobcat named Libra. She kept Impy and Libra in the bobcat house, just off the back porch at the back of the house.

  • Scattered around the yard you will find several sculptures, a bottle garden, hit-and-miss engines, rusted remains of a World War II weapons carrier, and much more including that old porcelain sink…
